Sherry Bruck Named “Women Who Lead” Finalist

January 9, 2009

New Rochelle, New York – Sherry Bruck, President of Harquin Creative Group, has been selected as a finalist in the “Women Who Lead” Awards competition sponsored by the Executive Women’s Golf Association (EWGA), a non-profit organization that provides opportunities for women to learn, play and enjoy the game of golf for business and for life. www.ewga.com .

Introduced this year, the “Women Who Lead” Awards are designed to recognize women from across the nation who have made a difference in their chapters; currently the EWGA has nearly 20,000 members in over 120 chapters throughout the U.S. Hundreds of women were nominated in 10 different categories, with Sherry Bruck singled out in the Community Impact category.  Bruck was nominated by her chapter for her innovative approach to community outreach, which included creating a speakers’ program to expose women’s business groups to the game of golf and organizing networking clinics. Bruck also designed and developed the Westchester chapter’s website.

Bruck says she was drawn to the EWGA because it offered her “the opportunity to play with other women golfers, to be able to compete and improve.  There are a lot of women who want to play golf but don’t know how to get started, especially if they aren’t members of a country club. The EWGA is like a virtual country club: Members pay $100. to join and have access to lessons and clinics, organized outings and competitive play as well as social events at both public courses and country club courses.”

“Golf is challenging,” says Bruck. “It has some athletic aspects to it, but it’s also very intellectual, and I find that it’s never boring. When you play well it’s rewarding because there are so many challenges, so many elements that affect your decision making, as in business, there are so many variables that affect the choices you make – you have to control your emotions and make smart decisions.”

Sherri Wilson, President of the Westchester chapter, says “We are so proud to have one of our members representing us at a national level.“ She added that members of the Westchester chapter plan to attend the national conference in Palm Springs, CA in February where Sherry will be recognizeded—joining 500 women golfers who will gather to network and play golf.

The Executive Women’s Golf Association is a national not for profit organization formed in 1991. The EWGA‘s Westchester chapter was formed in 1998 and has over 150 members, mostly professional women in the lower Hudson Valley region who would like to learn, improve or compete in the game of golf. The 2009 season opener, dubbed the Westchester Tee-off Luncheon, will be held on March 29th, and the group is currently planning an exciting calendar of golfing activities including after-work leagues, a boot camp for intermediate golfers, group golf clinics and several events including the Rally for a Cure Invitational Golf Outing on June 4th.
